I always have a heart of gratitude to Gulangyu when I am fascinated with it since it makes me understand that some things are not so easy to get, but even easy to lose what I have had. Gulangyu is an islet with no vehicles running around, so you need to reach any place on foot.

With your luggage, you came here from afar and loaded the islet by cockleshell. During the journey, you suffered from noise, passed through downtown, saw an old man making tea at the door, and enjoyed the warm scene that kids were playing on the road, then went through the recesses of straight cave and walked up 95 natural stone steps. Finally you are here! Perhaps the journey seems to be endless; while what I wish is that our gallery-inn will give you something eternal.

I love so much to sit in the old cane chair at the door, looking vaguely at the distant sea through the old longan trees and imagining what the other side will look like. Afterwards, I can understand better the motto that our ancestors left “Always leave some leeway for yourself.”

When the quadrangle dwellings (one typical house in the north of China) appear on the islet, the whole feeling have undergone a subtle change—- imagine that in a late winter afternoon, you make a pot of tea, enjoy the sun sprinkling through the courtyard and hear the sound of a babbling brook. How warm and comfortable!

To memory the childhood when I was in grandma’s wooden house, I built three cabins in the gallery’s backyard. These cabins are for all who have the same memories.

You will never experience the fun of walking, if you like to go out on a ride. Then probably you won’t like this islet. If you like gardening, then join us in growing vegetables and flowers and have a fun of landscapes. If you are lucky enough to come during the harvest time, you can pick the honeysweet longan.

I always feel that our gallery-inn is a nimbus place where you can not only stare blankly but also think independently. An uneducated plasterer who stays here for one month may also write profound and elegant verses.
